The area below 14th Street in Manhattan has long been synonymous with the cutting edge—in cool, in youth culture, and in creative endeavor. While “downtown” no longer refers to a physical space any more than “Hollywood” does, it is still a powerful place of mind. And a new generation of loosely affiliated artists, working in a variety of media, have taken up the mantle there, pushing all the limits that they can find in order to make a better place for everyone.
