For Pandora, there can never be too much whimsy. And with their new Wonders collection, designed in partnership with creative director and stylist Harry Lambert, the brand may have finally achieved peak zany. The line features pieces that are the embodiment of playful luxury, depicting squids, frogs, pea pods, and even ice cream cones, all crafted out of hand-picked Baroque pearls that add an unexpected dash of pure elegance to these designs. To experience the true spirit of the jewelry, Interview’s Fashion Director Dara caught up with Lambert to discuss the inspiration behind the new collection and get up close and personal with these quirky pieces before both headed to the newly opened Le Gratin restaurant for a night of caviar, cocktails, and pearl animals for all.

DARA: We’re here with Harry Lambert at Chateau Voltaire. What are we doing here? Tell me.
HARRY LAMBERT: I’m going to talk you through the collection of Pandora Wonders. This is the first collection, which will be a continuing project.
DARA: Okay.
LAMBERT: It’s focusing on the craftsmanship of jewelry, but also just showcasing what Pandora can do. Everything was made with freshwater Baroque pearls, so every single charm you get is slightly different.
DARA: Ooh. They’re all unique?
LAMBERT: Yes. It took a long time for them to find pearls of similar shapes so you could then assign them to each other.
DARA: Yeah, because they’re huge. I’ve never seen Baroque pearls like that.
LAMBERT: These are the special ones. The frog is something that we added right at the end, which was inspired by this water bucket I had in the garden at home. The frogs would lay all the tadpoles in the water bucket.
DARA: Oh my god.
LAMBERT: And then, one day, they all escaped.
DARA: Jumped out?
LAMBERT: Jumped out. So, this is special. It only comes in the larger size and it can be worn on the chain. And then for the event, we made some pin badges. There’s also an ear cuff over here. So these will be a super, super limited sale, and then we made some larger ones as well.
DARA: Gorgeous.
LAMBERT: It’s so cute. Those squid earrings are special one of ones.
DARA: Okay. I like the blowfish.
LAMBERT: So these are batches, and then we have big earrings as well which are special. This is a slightly enlarged puffer fish, and then we have a smaller one as well.
DARA: Cute.
LAMBERT: Little squid, ice cream, pea.
DARA: Oh my god. Wait, ice cream.
LAMBERT: Ice cream. I know, right?
DARA: Tell me about ice cream and pea.
LAMBERT: Well, at one point there was a burger in the collection, but the burger didn’t feel right for this one.
DARA: A burger made of a Baroque pearl.
LAMBERT: Yeah, I know, right?
DARA: Oh, you’re going to have to revisit this too.
LAMBERT: I know. I think we have to revisit. But the idea was that it was things that would hit at nostalgia, put a smile on your face, and also were a little bit surreal. It’s kind of this mismatched family of—you know how all families are.
DARA: Yeah, there’s all different characters.
LAMBERT: There’s the squid, and the puffer fish, and the frog. But it was this collection of charms that brought a lot of joy and fun. It was also fun just to see what a pearl could do.
DARA: Yeah.
LAMBERT: So, that was the plan. I love pearls. It’s probably one of the first pieces of jewelry I really wore.
DARA: I love a pearl. I wear a little pearl stud all the time.
LAMBERT: When I first moved to London, I invested in a single pearl on a chain and wore it every day. I bought a cheap fake pearl from H&M, and then it made my skin green. So now the upgrade is—
DARA: The upgrade is the Pandora Baroque.
LAMBERT: No, no, the upgrade is the mini mouse.
DARA: Oh my god.
LAMBERT: The little mouse.
DARA: Okay. I’m obsessed with that. That’s so cute.
LAMBERT: It’s so cute. There’s another little heart, and he is a submarine.
DARA: What is this charm bracelet?
LAMBERT: What we’ve been doing a lot in the campaign is layering up loads of the same charms, so this is a little heart and key.
DARA: Oh, a little heart locket. So cute. How long have you been working on this?
LAMBERT: Quite a while. There’s one more charm, but I can’t find it. Where is it? Oh my god. Scandalous. Absolutely scandalous. Where is she? Oh, here it is. This one here. It’s like this weird little—
DARA: A little star.
LAMBERT: Yeah, little star planet kind of thing. There’s some of the existing Pandora charms that are just shown in different ways.
DARA: Nice.
LAMBERT: Drew Vickers shot the campaign three or four months ago.
DARA: Okay.
LAMBERT: Yeah, but I work with Pandora. I worked on a couple Disney campaigns with them, and I met Filipo and Francesco and got on really well. Then, they asked me to get involved with this.
DARA: I love it.
LAMBERT: It is super fun. They have lots of fun things coming up this year, which is quite exciting, but I can’t tell you about.
DARA: Yeah, apparently there’s something top secret. For next time.
LAMBERT: It’s quite amazing the projects they’ve got coming this year. It’s quite epic.
DARA: How long are you here in Paris?
LAMBERT: I’m going to pop up tomorrow in the cafe. I’ll go see that in the morning, then I go back to London tomorrow. And then I’m being made Masters of Art at my old uni—
DARA: Oh my god. Wait, congrats. That’s exciting.
LAMBERT: A bit scary. I have to do a speech tomorrow. It’s on the South Bank at the Royal Festival Hall.
DARA: Wow.
LAMBERT: And then, I have a shoot on Thursday and Friday, fitting Saturday, shoot and fittings Sunday, and then we’re back in Paris for a shoot Monday.
DARA: Wow. Oh my god. Busy, busy, busy. Where do you shop in Paris? That’s something the readers will want to know.
LAMBERT: Do you know what? I’m so bad at shopping.
DARA: No, same. Every time anyone asks me this, I’m like, “I’m the worst person to ask. I should know, but I don’t.”
LAMBERT: Yeah, and even in London, they’ll be like, “Where should I go for shopping?” I’m like, “I don’t fucking know.” I always go to this place called BRUT Archives.
DARA: Okay.
LAMBERT: I think they have it in New York. It’s not very me actually. It’s kind of work wear-y, kind of vintage. But they have really good hoodies and T-shirts. Everything’s made really well.
DARA: That’s good.
LAMBERT: Well, last time I came, I went wild on Dario Versace-
DARA: Oh my god, yeah.
LAMBERT: Because I get a press discount and then tax back as well, so everything was—
DARA: That’s genius.
LAMBERT: I was like, “One of those, one of those, one of those.”
DARA: Oh, that’s smart.
LAMBERT: Where else do I go shopping? To be honest, every time I come, I’m working so I don’t have much time for shopping.
DARA: Same. I’m not that good a shopper.
LAMBERT: No, it’s so boring. Last time I did a real supermarket sweep was in Tokyo.
DARA: Oh, what’d you buy in Tokyo?
LAMBERT: I bought a lime green shell handbag, which is almost like sofa fabric, like a corduroy sofa.
DARA: Oh, cool. Okay.
LAMBERT: And then I bought my boyfriend a Chanel tweed bag. Then I bought a massive bright pink Chanel tote bag, which I’ve never used. And I bought this Elaya shirt.
DARA: Good. Shoot. This shirt’s good.
LAMBERT: Yeah. It’s a women’s one. Look at the sexy label.
DARA: It’s really good.
LAMBERT: But I got that. Online, I just found my favorite season Prada Spring/Summer 2012 menswear shirt, the golf one with all the stats.
DARA: The golf one. Yeah.
LAMBERT: I just bought two studded shirts online from Japan
DARA: Ooh.
LAMBERT: Off Instagram.
DARA: Okay.
LAMBERT: Well, the collection also is going in to Dover Street Market in London.
DARA: Oh, cool.
LAMBERT: It’s the first time Pandora’s been in Dover Street, which we’re really excited about.
DARA: Wow, that’s going to be cool.
LAMBERT: It’s going to be epic. Yeah. And the price is really good.
DARA: They’re all unique. Everyone gets their own. I love it because, growing up, my dad got me and my sister these bracelets with multiple charms and I chose to get a long one. So I wore it as a choker, and I got just one star charm for the middle.
LAMBERT: Love it.
DARA: And that was when we were teenagers. But these are so elevated and beautiful, but still playful. It’s really sweet.
LAMBERT: I feel very proud of it. You have to work out what you’re going to wear.
DARA: I know. I need to pick my own.
LAMBERT: So we have all the tables and chairs outside tonight, and then Louise Chen’s going to DJ. She’s really fab. I’m going to try an oyster tonight.
DARA: Well, make sure you dress it with all the things.
LAMBERT: I feel like people in power, fashion people—
DARA: Fashion people love oysters.
LAMBERT: They love oysters.
DARA: Do you like oysters?
LAMBERT: No.
DARA: Yeah, I don’t like it either. Maybe it’s a lie.
LAMBERT: But there’s other food.
DARA: Oh, thank God. Because I need that.
LAMBERT: I know. There’s caviar, but then I think there’s other–
DARA: I mean, if there’s caviar you don’t need any other food really.
LAMBERT: Yes. And there will be tequila cocktails.
DARA: Oh, perfect.
LAMBERT: I specifically specified tequila.
DARA: Thank god. We need that. Tequila down. Okay, work. Tonight will be fun.
