PARIS FASHION WEEK

Power Shoulders, Jazzy Oxfords, and Mushroom Hair: Celine FW26

Celine

Mel Ottenberg and Natasha Lyonne.

Oh look it’s Audrey Hobert jestermaxxing in a chic little suit and jazzy oxfords. The internet’s new favorite pop darling is here in Paris for her first fashion show, Celine FW26. What a chic one to pop your cherry for. Michael Rider’s Celine has quickly become an industry favorite for his cool, modern approach to classics. Everyone in the front row looked chic and none of them looked foolish, which is a feat. Naomi Watts. Dan Levy. Natasha Lyonne. Sarah Paulson. Chateau Marmont king Andre Balasz was chatting with Gus Van Sant front row. We caught up after the show to talk about how much we loved those clothes.

DARA: Celine’s show was really, really, really, fab. I really love Celine.

MEL OTTENBERG: Let’s be real. Celine’s the show. I just want to say that Michael Rider and I are from the exact same neighborhood.

DARA: Whoa, cool.

Celine

Naomi Watts.

Celine

Dan Levy.

OTTENBERG: Anyway, he is like the thing.

DARA: I know. You have all these celebs there and they all look chic. None of them look like fools, and that’s really rare.

OTTENBERG: Last season I was sat with all the best American woman editors, and I could just see the look on all their faces and how excited everybody was to wear that stuff. And today we saw a show that was somehow 20 times better than the last one. I thought it was so tight.

DARA: It was tight.

OTTENBERG: The colors were so beautiful.

DARA: Yeah, it feels like there’s finally a new color. You know what I mean? Like all the red and fuchsia, and that pop of purple was so chic. The greens, the pop of leopard…

OTTENBERG: It was a great pop of leopard.

DARA: It’s still playful, but it had a seriousness.

OTTENBERG: Oh yeah, this red and pink–now, that’s a great color combination. And the red sunglasses. Look at how stunning that is.

DARA: That was my favorite look. It was incredible and just so surprising. What I really liked about that pink look was–there’s this amazing Celine collection from the Phoebe Philo era, which is this very sober collection and it has like wood print, and then a lot of navy with hair tucked into the turtleneck. Then there’s just one Pepto-Bismol pink outfit. It activates everything else. It has this electricity. You don’t have to have the whole collection all a crazy color, but to have one thing with all the other sober colors is really cool. It keeps your eye awake.

OTTENBERG: I’ve got to say, I’ve been looking for a double-breasted coat, and then it was right there in the midst of the show. I felt really seen. I want a power shoulder that’s not clown.

DARA: A power shoulder that’s not Uncle Fester.

OTTENBERG: A good, sharp shoulder.

Gus Van Sant.

Adwoa Aboah.

OTTENBERG: I also love them making fun of TikTok hair with these feathers.

DARA: Yeah, no feathers for the girls, just feathers for the boys.

OTTENBERG: What in the TikTok hellscape is that? It’s so cool.

DARA: It’s that TikTok mushroom hair.

OTTENBERG: Without a doubt. There’s also some fun stuff. I love the green, cropped, flared pant with the black coat.

DARA: With the little ZZ Oxford?

OTTENBERG: It’s like a little jazz shoe. I think it’s genuinely exciting and it really made me feel something. And with that, I’ve got to go, guys.
