Last weekend, we found Nathy Peluso behind the DJ booth at private party in Ibiza, where the 30-year-old Grammy winner partnered with Boiler Room and PATRÓN to launch her club series, a celebration of her genre-defying taste in music, from Afrobeats and hip-hop to dembow and champeta. “Ibiza is such a vibe,” she told us while beats from a hand-selected group of her favorite DJs blared over the speakers. “Amapiano is kicking my ass.” But we weren’t going to leave the club without soliciting Peluso’s best Ibiza recs. So before she headed to Mexico and Puerto Rico for the next run of shows on her GRASA World Tour, Peluso let us in on the secret to living like an island girl.

NATHY PELUSO: You are so pretty, actually.

JULIAN RIBEIRO: This is not about me. This is about you, my love. You’re so pretty. For readers out there, we’re here with our queen after the Boiler Room x PATRÓN show. And what’s her name?

PELUSO: Nathy Peluso.

RIBEIRO: How does it feel to be kicking off this partnership with Boiler Room and PATRÓN?

PELUSO: It’s such an honor and it’s such a big step for us because we are starting this amazing project and it’s about sharing energy. I’m not a good DJ, so what I thought is, “Why don’t I open this big window we have and we can show so much talent all around the world?” So today we are doing with Sango. The other day we did it with Kebra and with BADSISTA. So what I mean is, I’m feeling like something big is starting.

RIBEIRO: It feels like it. Let’s talk about who was on tonight.

PELUSO: Zsongo Boys.

RIBEIRO: They’re mega.

PELUSO: First of all, the energy they are bringing to this club.

RIBEIRO: They’re a fucking vibe.

PELUSO: So honest and so raw, you know? And that’s why I’m calling them because first of all, I love African music. Then Amapiano is kicking my ass. The drums, the bass—I really feel that. I think they share such a good vibration. It’s not just the music. It’s not just the culture. It’s what you create on the stage with them.

RIBEIRO: It was like a big house party.

PELUSO: That’s what I wanted you to feel. So I’m so happy, yes.

RIBEIRO: You’ve just joined the PATRÓN family of artists. How does it feel to join a lineage with a bunch of other major artists from around the world and be a part of that roster?

PELUSO: Wow, it’s amazing. I am actually so honored and so grateful for this big opportunity to share CLUB GRASA and music with these amazing people. It means a lot. And Ibiza is such a vibe.

RIBEIRO: This is my first time in Ibiza.

PELUSO: Oh, it is?

RIBEIRO: I came yesterday. What should I do? You’re the queen. I need to know.

PELUSO: You have to eat really, really good food. You should go to Es Fumeral.

RIBEIRO: Where is that?

PELUSO: It’s a restaurant in front of the beach. I really love to eat good Mediterranean food. You’re going to love it. And if you come by a boat, go to Formentera.

RIBEIRO: It’s on the list. What does the rest of your summer look like?

PELUSO: I think today is the last show we are doing until October. We are starting the next round of the tour in Mexico and in Puerto Rico. But now I have to go to the studio and finish all this shit, because I have so many things to share.

RIBEIRO: Okay, we’re in the studio, we’re pumping. How do we keep the energy up?

PELUSO: Meditate, I think.

RIBEIRO: Okay.

PELUSO: [Laughs] You were not expecting that?

RIBEIRO: No, but I like a curveball.

PELUSO: Because you connect with yourself. Touch the grass, touch the sea, la tierra. Because this island has something really, really powerful.

RIBEIRO: You feel it in the sands, in the water.

PELUSO: I have to tell you something. People say the island can push you out.

RIBEIRO: Or bring you in.

PELUSO: Exactly. It’s like the island is into you. And you should drink PATRÓN.

RIBEIRO: Well, I have been drinking PATRÓN-

PELUSO: PATRÓN the whole night. How many, baby? I’ve had five.

RIBEIRO: Well… I’m good about water. And I’m vegetarian. I’ve never had meat before.

PELUSO: Never?

RIBEIRO: My whole family. We were raised vegetarian.

PELUSO: Oh, wow. You are on another level. That’s so beautiful.

RIBEIRO: But I feel like I’m missing out because in Spain, the meat looks great. Okay, where are the afters?

PELUSO: I don’t know, because I never party at all. This is my party.

RIBEIRO: Do you have a favorite place to party in Europe or in the world? Is there a favorite city you have where you’re like, “Let’s go out tonight?”

PELUSO: I would say Puerto Rico, because salsa is my favorite music to party.

RIBEIRO: Of course.

PELUSO: I really love hip-hop, too. But salsa makes me so happy.

RIBEIRO: We know that I’m obsessed with you. Is there anything you wanted to tell the Interview audience about what’s coming up for you?

PELUSO: We are almost finishing something really, really big and beautiful. And you know that vibe when something really special is coming? I feel it in the air.

RIBEIRO: You are incredible.

PELUSO: Listen, I’m coming to New York.

RIBEIRO: Want to visit us?

PELUSO: We are going to do something.
