Zac Posen Celebrates the New Year with Dad

For 2009, Zac Posen is bringing it all home. The bold-named courtier, whose 2001 “hook and eye” leather-strapped gown put the 21-year-old on the radars of Naomi Campbell and Anna Wintour, has cemented his reputation by dressing women who know how to celebrate a new year. But tonight Posen is staying in. While revelers mob the streets, Posen said he’d ring in the new year by “talking about paintings with my father by the fireplace.”

And while its recent economic woes that have tripped up many a night owl, Posen isn’t actually slowing down. On his plans for the forthcoming fall collection, he described, “Going back to my roots, regardless of the economy.” That’s some bloodline. This past spring, Posen’s capsule collection for Target Australia was an instant sell-out, and his gowns received rave reviews for their starring role in the Sex and the City movie. New Year’s resolution? Posen will launch a fragrance conceptualized by Interview‘s own Fabien Baron, and is in talks for other additions to his line. But for the designer there’s a marked distinction between selling mass-market and selling out. Among the trends he’d over from 2008 are “young creators becoming corporate.”

And on his own signature holiday style? The designer spares no extravagance, describing his fireside look as “very Vincente Minnelli.
