“40% Sexy, 60% Awkward”: The Laws of Dance, According to LSDXOXO

Welcome to SOUND ADVICE, Interview’s weekly destination for playlists curated by our friends, enemies, and lovers. In recent weeks, we’ve featured playlists from Montell Fish, Allie X, and Bugonia composer Jerskin Fendrix. This week, we hand the aux to LSDXOXO, the Philly-born, Berlin-based DJ and producer turning hedonism into high art. A product of New York’s GHE20GOTH1K scene, RJ Glasgow built a world where industrial techno meets R&B and pleasure is encouraged. His latest mixtape DGTL ANML—released on his own imprint, with collaborators like Shygirl, COBRAH, and Boys Noize—extends that vision. He’s since brought his sound from Club Shy to Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour and FKA Twigs’ EUSEXUA show. Ahead of his Seismic Dance Event set in Austin this weekend, he made us a playlist that’s fit for the dance floor. And dancing, as he told us in our Sound Advice questionnaire, is “40% sexy, 60% awkward, 100% therapeutic.”

Where do you dance? At work, mostly. I’m either usually dancing to one of my friend’s sets or one of my own. It’s lovely to have buddies with good taste in music!

How do you dance? That depends on how weird we’re getting. 40% of my dancing is sexy. 60% of it is awkward. 100% of it is therapeutic.

Name an underrated SoundCloud artist that more people should know about. More people should know about Swank Mami. She’s allergic to making a bad song.

The world is ending. What are you wearing? A suit of armor, perhaps. I’d have it customized for sure. That and my favorite Chanel sunnies.

What did success solve for you? Less time waiting in lines?

Which song on this playlist do you want to remix? “LV Sandals” by EssDeeKid and FakeMink is one of my favs right now. Haven’t done an unofficial remix in quite some time, but I think the time’s come.

Which song on this playlist makes you cry? “Room for Happiness” by Kaskade and Skylar Grey. Kaskade is an undercover tearjerker.

Which song on this playlist makes you feel powerful? “Rose Rouge” by St. Germain. It’s on my cleaning and cooking playlist at home, so it helps me to get lots done.

Dream collab, living or dead? Kylie Minogue. Thankfully our queen is still very much alive.

Name your pre-game drink of choice. Usually, it’s an espresso martini or an Amaretto sour.

What’s the best club in Berlin? I don’t know about the best club in Berlin, but I’ve never failed to have an amazing time at OHM.

You’re about to play a festival in Austin. What’s your favorite Southern comfort food? I’ve got a bit of a sweet tooth, so I’d say peach cobbler or banana pudding.

Who do you trust most with the aux? Any bartender! They’re secretly the best DJs.
