Welcome to SOUND ADVICE, Interview’s weekly destination for playlists curated by our friends, enemies, and lovers. In recent weeks, we’ve featured playlists from August Ponthier, Jonah Abraham, and Sunshine Benzi. This week’s installment comes from Organ Tapes, whose forthcoming six-track EP 包烟 (which translates to “a pack of cigarettes”) comes out this Friday. After setting the stage with his 2022 full-length album 唱着那无人问津的歌谣 (“Sing the Song That No One Cares About”), the British-Chinese singer-songwriter born Timothy Zha is grabbing his guitar and diving headfirst into his city-folk era, crooning in AutoTune about the possibility of love and faith in a world built to tear them down. As Zha got busy in the weight room, we asked him to make us a playlist and answer our questionnaire, where he tells us his his dream collaborator, the propaganda he isn’t falling for, and his DAW of choice. “Logic,” he says, “because it’s like GarageBand but a bit better.”
