Welcome to SOUND ADVICE, Interview’s weekly destination for playlists curated by our friends, enemies, and lovers. In recent weeks, we’ve featured playlists from Macy Rodman, Zach Cregger, and Jim-E Stack. This week’s installment comes from alt-pop singer-songwriter Maggie Lindemann, whose new studio album i feel everything drops this Friday. After teasing her more vulnerable, darker side with a string of singles—such as the biting “Spine” and the synth-laced “2022,” featuring Julia Wolf—the 27-year-old is finally laying her cards on the table with a sprawling, 16-track odyssey into obsession, grief, rage, shame, detachment, and survival. To mark the release, we asked her to curate a playlist to accompany her new record and answer our questionnaire, where she dishes on red flags, coping mechanisms, and the ultimate crash-out anthem.

Where do you dance? Either when I’m alone or out drunk with my friends. I’m not a good dancer lol.

Describe the new album in three words: Emo girl pop??? Hard to only pick three.

Your new song is called “2022.” What was your rose and thorn of 2022? 2022 was the best year ever. SUCKERPUNCH came out, I was doing well in life, got a boob job, was just very very happy. But what made me the happiest ended up making me the saddest.

What song on this playlist makes you cry? Something In The Orange.”

How do you cope? Video games and smoking, I don’t have the best coping skills.

Dream collab, dead or alive? Radiohead or Massive Attack.

Who’s the queen of pop? I don’t wanna answer this question because I don’t want people to yell at me lol I love all the pop girlies.

What’s a music taste red flag? Mmmm… I love Future but any time a man has said that’s their favorite artist I know hell’s doors are opening.

What song on this playlist do you wish you wrote? Ooof there’s so many good ones … “Daylily” by Movements.

Who do you trust most with the aux? Mmmmm probably Siiickbrain.

What’s your go-to crash-out song?Throw Away” by Future.

Texas or L.A.? Mmmmmm that’s hard… RN neither lol but I’ll say Texas.

Do you miss Tumblr? I do but it’s not the same.

The world is ending. What are you wearing? A t-shirt, shorts and a pair of running shoes.
