Casting Call: Toni Erdmann
In which we suggest who should star in the next big adaptation, remake, or historical film.
Good news for those still mourning the end of HBO’s Girls: according to Deadline, Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner are in “early talks” to team up for the English remake of the Oscar-nominated German film Toni Erdmann. Written and directed by Maren Ade, and released last year, Erdmann follows a goofy father named Winifred as he attempts to loosen up his high-strung, business-consultant daughter, Ines. In the process, Winifred takes on an exuberant alter ego, the titular Toni.
Although the remake is still in it’s early stages, Gloria Sanchez is set to produce and Paramount is allegedly already considering Jack Nicholson and Kristen Wiig as the two leads. We’d love to see Nicholson come out of retirement, especially as Wiig’s father, but in case these projected plans fall through, we’d like to offer some alternative suggestions.
Casting Call runs on Fridays. For more, click here.
