This Spring’s Gym-Bun Alternative

Spring’s hottest, most gym-ready style is undoubtedly the side braid. Wear it loose and wear it often. The unkempt assymmetrical haircut’s mysterious reemergence can be traced back to the 2010 Spring/Summer Alexander Wang runway show, courtesy of hair mastermind Guido (above left). Since then, the famous and non-famous alike have been recreating their own version of the trend. Jen Atkin, celebrity stylist from the Andy Lecompte Salon, says, “The braid is perfect for spring/summer. It’s a quick fix if you don’t have time, or your hair is dirty, yet you still want to look stylish. Also, women with long hair: this is a chicer alternative to the gym-bun or ponytail.” It’s a hairstyle for women on the go, with any kind of hair: “I recommend if you have bangs, wearing a braid in the middle of your head, going down your back. If you don’t have bangs, side parting on the same side as your braid will sit is key. Braid the hair and then pull a section of your bang out and spray it.”
