Nas Shows Us How to Wear Heron Preston for Calvin Klein: Season 2
Earlier this year, Heron Preston’s inaugural collection with Calvin Klein assembled heavy-hitters like Nas, Ashley Graham, and Lil Uzi Vert for its launch campaign. This time around, in Heron Preston for Calvin Klein: Season 2, Nas returns to rep the collection, alongside a slew of newcomers including Savion Glover, Raph, and HVN. For Preston, as the designer tells Calvin Klein in an exclusive conversation, the objective of the collection was to distill New York’s vivid energy into its purest form: “The street was my sounding board for this collection,” says the designer, “and layers became a central theme as a result. To layer a puffer jacket over a hoodie over a thermal—that feels like a really complete New York look for me.”
The new campaign, directed by the award-winning filmmaker Ricky Saiz in collaboration with Preston, is about transformation: “What I love most about Season 2 is the versatility of each piece and its different styling options,” says Preston. “Changing weather is a big inspiration—in New York, we have seasons, so I wanted to bulk up the pieces. It’s all about staying super warm and comfortable on those bone-chilling days.” The collection introduces new gender-neutral, streetwear-inspired silhouettes, with an emphasis on sustainability. Take the Trucker Jacket, for example: a boxy snap-up in rich olive green made from recycled plastic bottles that is, in the designer’s words, “the perfect fit for anyone.” Or consider the cozy organic cotton thermals, a staple of the collection, that are both form-fitting and wide necked: “That way,” Preston says, “If you wear chains, you get a little glimpse of them popping out.” Of course, CK’s signature crop tops and bralettes make appearances, and every garment features Preston’s signature orange bar motif, which he jokes “looks a bit like a Sriracha stain,” adding another element of cohesion to collection.
