CAPE FEAR RIVER

“Growing up, my father and I would take the canoe out for ten hours. When we were shooting Moss [Slaggert’s first film], we were canoeing up and down the river and you needed to be really good in a canoe because there’s big wind gusts, and if you get blown to shore you could spook an alligator. One time this big ten-footer just Nat Geo’ed themself into the water, right in front of me. I was like, ‘That’s cool, but I’m happy I didn’t spook him.’”

FORT FISHER BUNKER

“There’s a weird aura to this place. It has a really interesting history because the area is old Civil War grounds. You can find Civil War memorabilia lying around all over the place.”

DOWNTOWN WILMINGTON

“I was getting bullshitted around by the Marine Corps for over a year and once they finally said no—I lost a kidney in a car accident when I was seven—I moved to Wilmington and set up shop there. One day I was washing my car, and Daniel Peddle [the director of Moss] tapped me on my shoulder and said, ‘Do you want to model?’ I was like, ‘Thank you, no thank you. I’m good.’ Long story short, he convinced me to do it. I went to New York two weeks later and then two weeks after that, I’m flying to Milan to do the Calvin Klein runway.”

THE FAT PELICAN

“When we were shooting the movie Moss, we’d often go back to this bar, drink, and go over what we learned that day. It has a really cool ambiance. I’ve never seen another bar like it. It has couches on the sand and a little shanty-town vibe. I always switch up my drink order, but a cold beer at the end of the day is just perfect.”

KURE PIER

“The Americana aesthetic, that’s what I grew up with. It’s in the DNA of things. I was so fortunate to live such a great childhood and I have phenomenal parents. But let’s go back a little bit. So I went to college and it was beach, work, play, party, and then school. I was never really exploring all that Wilmington had to offer, so with Moss, I was getting to do a lot of the sightseeing stuff that I never did while living there. This is one of those places that ties into the movie’s ending. We did a lot of filming there and the hot dog spot is just a cool aesthetic, if you ask me.”
