Christopher Kane’s Splendored Things

In the 2010 version of Love Is a Many Splendored Thing, William Holden might just find Jennifer Jones clothed in Christopher Kane’s Dragon Lady-meets-Lotus Flower Fall collection. Kane made a playful jab at contemporary stereotypes (we think) with a collection that was—for a provocative lack of a better word—”Eurasian.” Models appeared bound by the intensely woven sixties-style patchwork floras in arabesque constellations and the severely tailored style getups. More liberatingly, by their simplicity the looks had the feel of contemporary sportswear. Matte and patent leather was combined with black lace so as to appear naughty yet nice, both aspects of the exoticized femme fatale.
