Anna Malygon has mastered the art of being online. The 22 year old Ukrainian model knows exactly how to style herself, pout and post, both on OnlyFans and TikTok. But as I learned when we got on the phone last month, her camera-ready glow isn’t the byproduct of a million-step skincare routine or fancy lasers, but rather a fuss-free series of rituals. The thing Malygon does like to splurge on is make-up, and she’s nailed down the exact routine that looks good both on and off camera. While in Paris for Fashion Week earlier this fall, she shared some of her best tips, favorite products, and some advice for handling hate comments.

EMILY SANDSTROM: So you’re in Paris right now. Have you been running around doing Fashion Week stuff?
ANNA MALYGON: Yeah, it’s pretty crazy. I did a few shows. One of them was Vetements, which was my favorite.
SANDSTROM: Nice. When you’re running around, what’s your skincare routine like?
MALYGON: My skincare routine is always the same. My skin is super sensitive and if I use a new product, it breaks out super easily. My whole life I just had the worst skin. I had acne, I had dermatitis, I’ve had all types of stuff. So I have to be very careful with what I use. Honestly, I use a regular pharmacy face wash and the most clear one-ingredient moisturizer for my skin.
SANDSTROM: They say the best way to do it is to keep it simple. Especially now because there’s just so much stuff available, it gets confusing.

MALYGON: Yeah, and it all looks really pretty in the stores. In Sephora, you just want to buy, buy, buy because of all the colors and bottles. But I just break out most of the time.
SANDSTROM: Yes. I know. So is it super simple, cleanser and moisturizer?
MALYGON: Yeah, and SPF. They say that it’s really important, so I’m with them on that one.
SANDSTROM: Are you getting enough sleep and hydration while you’re running around?
MALYGON: I’m actually not a party person and I also don’t drink or smoke at all. Everyday that I can be in bed at 10:00, I’m in bed. Sleep is number one for sure.
SANDSTROM: Do people always assume you’re a party person?
MALYGON: That’s what people usually think. But all my close friends know that there’s no point in offering me a drink.
SANDSTROM: That’s cool. I’m wondering what you think about the uptick in surgery trends for young people? Especially since you’re in L.A.?

MALYGON: I’m originally from Ukraine, and it’s also pretty popular there to do all the procedures and for girls to really take care of themselves. I personally don’t think it’s bad. Everyone should do what they want. But sometimes it looks better than it was before, because it’s very addictive. Then suddenly it’s not enough, and you want more and more. But when someone actually needs it I think it’s great, and it makes people confident. Personally, I wish I could do lip filler. It’s my dream, but I can’t because I’ve done it so many times and it just dissolves so quickly. My body just doesn’t take to it.
SANDSTROM: Oh, that’s so interesting. But you like how it looks?
MALYGON: Yeah, I love it.
SANDSTROM: I like it but I feel like I can always tell when people have it.
MALYGON: Me too, but I actually don’t care. In person you can see it really easily, but on social media it blends in. It actually looks really good on social media.
SANDSTROM: That’s cool. What are some of your favorite lip products?
MALYGON: Well, I almost don’t have an upper lip, and it really shows in pictures and videos. So I never used any lip products, because I feel like it emphasizes how small my lips are. But then I found Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk, the most basic lip liner ever. I overlined my upper lip once and then I was like, “Whoa, this is a game changer.” I just use that, and then Vaseline from the pharmacy.

SANDSTROM: Nice. Do you still overline them a lot?
MALYGON: When I film my videos, I overline them and it looks really nice. But in person you can see that I overline them for sure. My makeup for a camera and for videos is completely different from real life makeup, I would say.
SANDSTROM: Wait, talk me through the camera one and the real life one.
MALYGON: Well, I use the same products, but the quantity changes.
SANDSTROM: Okay, got it.
MALYGON: If I look at myself in the mirror after I do my camera makeup, it’s like I just escaped the circus, you know.
SANDSTROM: Don’t they say it’s like 20% more for the camera, or something like that?

MALYGON: It’s more like 40% more for the camera I would say. I would take for example, a bronzer and a blush and I would put this sunburned look, but it won’t be just a little bit sunburned, it’ll be intense, like a whole line. And then I film and then you still can barely see it. And still I look very natural even on the camera. So I overline my lips for the camera more, I do this sunburned blush plus bronzer, like a lot, like creamy and then powder as well, all type of stuff. And I also do fake freckles. This is my also, I love it so much. It’s number one in real life and on camera, it makes my face just look so much better. I was thinking about getting a tattoo or something for a long time, but I didn’t.
SANDSTROM: That’s so fun.
MALYGON: And lashes as well. I can’t film anything without having my mascara on. There’s no way.
SANDSTROM: You love when your lashes are done?
MALYGON: Yeah, yeah. But extensions are very hard for me to wear because they irritate my eyes. But if I could, I would for sure.
SANDSTROM: Talk me through the products that you’re using makeup wise, like foundation, concealer, freckle pen.
MALYGON: The best concealer is Dior. I tried every single concealer with my pimple history. Dior is number one.
SANDSTROM: Is it the Dior Backstage one?

MALYGON: Yeah. Also, the bottle is just so satisfying. Everything about it is so nice, except the bottle leaks.
SANDSTROM: Oh really?
MALYGON: Yeah, but it’s still the best one. In general, Dior products are the best. The mascara applies the best, it’s super natural. It’s the best foundation too because it’s just so light and it washes off easily.
SANDSTROM: Yeah.
MALYGON: For bronzer, I like the Benefit bronzer and Benetint.
SANDSTROM: Benetint is a good throwback.
MALYGON: Yeah, I put it everywhere, on my lips, on my eyes, on my face, on my cheeks, on my nose. I feel like for the brows, all pencils are all kind of the same. I have two, a Dior one and a Benefit one.
SANDSTROM: Cute.
MALYGON: I also love Rhode, Hailey Bieber’s brand with all the blushes. I have like four different ones.
SANDSTROM: Yeah. The packaging is really cute. Other than the Rhode one, which other blushes do you like?

MALYGON: Benefit Benetint, and the Dior, I have powder. And I also love the ones, I think it’s called Glossier. It’s super simple. Because I really like cream ones because you can do so much with them to mix them and it’s fun to use them. Benefit, Dior–When I go into Sephora, those are the two aisles I go to.
MALYGON: Oh my god, the packaging is so satisfying. And the glazing mist–oh my god. It’s just so satisfying to use.
SANDSTROM: I know. Sometimes I like the packaging more than the product.
MALYGON: For sure. I am an addict.
SANDSTROM: Do you ever sleep in your makeup by accident?
MALYGON: No. Never. I would break out the next day like crazy if I did that.
SANDSTROM: Really?
MALYGON: Yeah.
SANDSTROM: Did you ever take any medication for your acne?

MALYGON: I did Accutane for six months. I stopped taking it like a week ago and I can already see that they’re coming back.
SANDSTROM: Oh, wow. I took Accutane too when I was younger.
MALYGON: Accutane?
SANDSTROM: Yeah, it was incredible. I loved how it looked.
MALYGON: No, for sure. When I took it, I was also like, “Wow, I can look like that?!”
SANDSTROM: I know. Do you think there’s a lot of different beauty standards between Europe and the US?
MALYGON: For sure. I feel like in the U.S. it’s more chill, which I like a lot.
SANDSTROM: You think so?
MALYGON: Yeah. I just can’t wait to go back and just wear sweatpants every day. In Europe, you’re more perceived by how you look.
SANDSTROM: Yeah.

MALYGON: That’s why I love the U.S.
SANDSTROM: That’s awesome. I’m wondering, do you ever get hate comments and negative things written about you?
MALYGON: For sure. All the time. All day, every day.
SANDSTROM: What do people say?
MALYGON: The most common thing they say is just calling me a hoe. Or like “You just want men’s attention, and you do zero work. You have a whole team behind you, you’re just a stupid model.” That’s their favorite.
SANDSTROM: What do you think about that when you read that stuff?
MALYGON: Honestly, it never bothered me because the more famous you get, the more hate you get. It’s always proportionally growing. When I started my social media three years ago, I realized that most controversial videos get the most engagement and views, and that’s why I started doing it more often. I kind of gained all my views on hate and controversy.
SANDSTROM: I love that. Okay, what about your workout routine?

MALYGON: I’ve been going to the gym for like three years, three times a week.
SANDSTROM: Nice.
MALYGON: I’ve had my personal coach for three years now, and I just do whatever she tells me to do. I lift weights and that’s it. I’m just trying to grow my butt most of the time.
SANDSTROM: Like, tons of squats or the Stairmaster?
MALYGON: Squats, yeah. And Bulgarian lunges.
SANDSTROM: Nice. Do you ever feel pressure to edit your pictures?
MALYGON: I used to edit every single picture. For the past year I kind of stopped doing it. I only do it sometimes, like when I’m trying to take a picture and everything looks great except my face. I just put some light filter on or make my lips better. Or I put on some makeup in post-production. With pictures on Instagram, I like when every picture is pretty. That’s the whole point for me of having an Instagram. So if it requires editing, I’m going to do that. I don’t have a hard no, but my body, for example, I stopped Photoshopping completely.
SANDSTROM: Nice. Do you have any selfie tips? You’re so good at it.
MALYGON: Let me think. There are so many. First of all, I think putting your camera higher. Just taking your selfie from above, the light is better, everything is better. Also, you can actually take some of your makeup products and you can finish your makeup while looking in the selfie camera.
SANDSTROM: Oh, that’s a good idea. So you can see how it comes out at the end.
MALYGON: Yeah. So you can actually just face tune it in real life kind of. Also, horizontal selfies are always better. You always look better when it’s not vertical. Another tip, selfies on the iPhone camera are the worst.
SANDSTROM: Really?
MALYGON: Yeah. I usually take my selfies, it’s either a TikTok camera or it’s an Instagram camera. The quality is just so much better.
SANDSTROM: That’s so interesting.
MALYGON: Almost like every little thing that is wrong with your face and it makes a higher contrast and the picture is gray and your eyes, I don’t know, if it’s not like perfect lighting, most of the time it can really fuck up your face. If you take a selfie on a TikTok camera, I promise it’s a game changer. It’s like, wow. It’s just a pain in the ass to save it after, because you have to take every single picture separately. But if you have time, it’s a life hack for sure.
SANDSTROM: That’s so fun. Okay, a couple more things. Do you have any fragrance favorites?

MALYGON: I have my one signature all time favorite, the Comme des Garçons Concrete. But when I was at school in Ukraine, I had a classmate when I was 14 and he always smelled like it and I always, I dreamt of buying that perfume, but I couldn’t because first of all it was expensive, second of all, I lived in Ukraine and it was really hard at that time to buy some luxury brand or niche or some hard to find type of perfume.
SANDSTROM: Yeah, fragrance is so fun. I’m wondering what trends you hate? Makeup trends or TikTok trends.
MALYGON: Honestly, I don’t like highlighter. It just doesn’t fit my face at all. I guess people with perfect skin might look good with it, but I never figured it out. Maybe it’s just me.
SANDSTROM: I feel exactly the same. It looks bad on me and it’s a 2016 war flashback. Okay. Thank you so much. That was really fun.
MALYGON: Thank you so, so much. It was fun.
