Exclusive Video Premiere: ‘Symbol System,’ VOWS

Australian Brooklynites Matt and Rizz of VOWS are The Cure meets the-club-at-closing. As they describe it, their sound starts in your head and “ends up in a seedy underground dance club after everyone has left.” It’s music for a night that should have ended hours ago. Not surprisingly, their latest video for “Symbol System”—which we’re pleased to premiere here—is more than a little bleary-eyed and woozy. An unfocused lens and skittering lights form the visual backdrop for VOWS’ discordant guitars, clanging piano, and shuffling beat. With witch house-inspired imagery and an unsettling sound, “Symbol System” takes listeners on a hazy trip to the underground.
