Joining 2013’s EP Holo Pleasures with a collection of new songs entitled California Dreamin‘, Elvis Depressedly is preparing to release an LP Holo Pleasures/California Dreamin’ on June 3 via Run For Cover Records. The Asheville, North Carolina-based duo, comprised of Mathew Cothran and Delaney Mills, felt as though the two short compilations were always meant to be combined. “After a few years, I was able to revisit and touch things up, put the records back together as a complete statement, and let the album be what it should have all along,” Cothran says.

When writing Holo Pleasures, Cothran admits that he was “spending a lot of long days drinking from sun up to sun down, working a job that was messing with [his] health, and kind of lackadaisically clinging to life, not really concerned if [he] lived or died.” The resultant six songs were a concise statement of what was going on, often expressed through monologues or two-person dialogue.  California Dreamin’, however, was headier and took on a more worldly viewpoint. Together, the two slowly reveal Cothran’s years of change and upheaval, and here we’re pleased to premiere the LP’s seventh track,  “Angel Cum Clean.”

“The humor of taking drugs and listening to bands named after different drugs is what set it all off in my mind,” Cothran explains. “The song deals with the concept of coming to a realization about being an addict, and about what you get and give in that exchange.” In his mind, the angel is a personification of that feeling. “Angels are good conduits and great characters,” he continues. “I love the angel obsession in the contemporary world, where angels are part of this twisted capitalist spirituality.”

HOLO PLEASURES/CALIFORNIA DREAMIN’ WILL BE RELEASED ON JUNE 3 VIA RUN FOR COVER RECORDS. YOU CAN PRE-ORDER THE ALBUM HERE.
