In which we suggest who should star in the next big adaptation, remake, or historical film.
When it comes to iconic Disney animated films, The Lion King is a true classic. Though the film was released in 1994, the story of Simba’s journey to succeed his father and become king of the pride lands of Africa never fails to pull on our heartstrings, no matter what age we are or how much time has passed. The story has achieved even more widespread affection and success since it premiered on Broadway in 1997.
Recently, it was announced that Disney has recruited Jon Favreau for a Lion King remake. Favreau is no stranger to the animated-classic reboot—he directed this spring’s remake of The Jungle Book. The announcement comes in the after a string of other successful Disney remakes and reinventions such as Cinderella, Maleficent, and the upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast.
