Cate Blanchett, Gigi Hadid, and A Humble Mantis Just Trying To Find Her Way Home: This Week’s NYC Celeb News Map

Autumn is fast approaching, and with it holds the promise of cooler weather, turtlenecks, and, apparently, a pseudo-religious follow-up to Hot Girl Summer. But before we break out the pumpkin spice lattes and break our promises to finally go apple picking upstate (wasn’t this year supposed to be the year?), we still have a few more weeks of unadulterated, all-out summer fun. The stars were out in droves this week, hitting up bars on the LES and turning heads in full-blown lewks. Here, we’ve compiled the best of the best star sightings, outfits, and other famous-ish things, making news across New York City’s five boroughs during the week of August 12th.

CATE BLANCHETT at THE BOWERY HOTEL, LOWER EAST SIDE, MANHATTAN

Cate Blanchett was seen outside the Bowery Hotel, looking radiant as ever in between press stops for her new film, Where’d You Go Bernadette. A diligent Interview spy also spotted the two-time Oscar winner on Canal Street, heading into the N/Q/R Station: “She was pushing a stroller, wearing a gorgeous two-piece outfit with clouds all over it, and lilac sunglasses.” Style maven, aspiring Proust reader, a legend of the stage a screen–is there anything Cate can’t do?

BILLY CRUDUP strolling down BROADWAY in SOHO, MANHATTAN

In other Where’d You Go Bernadette news, another trusted Interview spy saw Blanchett’s co-star, Billy Crudup, in Soho on Tuesday, presumably also in town to promote the film. As it turns out, if you spot one of the cast members of a Richard Linklater film, the rest of them might very well be nearby. No word yet on any Delpy-Hawke sightings, but we’ll keep an eye out.

BUSY PHILIPPS at L’AVENUE AT SAKS, MIDTOWN, MANHATTAN

Busy Philipps was yet another celeb to enjoy a swanky dinner at L’Avenue at Saks during her visit to the city. At L’Avenue, shoppers can experience fine, Parisian dining, and, according to Busy, an extremely Instagrammable staircase. According to her Instagram post, Philipps also hopped on the Hollywood train to Oklahoma!, although it looks like she opted for foie gras over chili. Her loss!

ANNE HATHAWAY at UNCLE BOONS, LOWER EAST SIDE, MANHATTAN

Actress and soon-to-be mom of two Anne Hathaway was seen outside the pint-sized Thai bar-restaurant Uncle Boons on Wednesday with her husband Adam Shulman, according to yet another (!) ever-faithful Interview source. Hathaway was looking casual in black leggings and flats, but her oversized shades on a cloudy evening (and seemingly fresh highlights) nearly gave away her star status.

GIGI HADID at RAY’S, LOWER EAST SIDE, MANHATTAN

Just around the corner from Uncle Boons, Star Map regular Gigi Hadid was spotted with her new beau Tyler Cameron (the runner-up on the latest season of The Bachelorette) at Ray’s on the Lower East Side. Ray’s happens to be owned by the ever-ubiquitous Justin Theroux, who is hopefully feeling much more “ladylike” thanks to Amy Sedaris’s sage advice. A Theroux-Hadid crossover? We love to see it.

JADA PINKETT SMITH vibrating on an ELEVATED FREQUENCY, SOMEWHERE in the NEW YORK CITY METRO AREA

https://www.instagram.com/p/B1JnlfYjPFL/

Jada Pinkett Smith is, well, in New York, at least as far as her geotag is to be trusted. She enlisted digital content creator Lea Sabban for a trippy, repeating video where the actress and Red Table Talk host seems to teleport across a bench while wearing shiny, silver, space-age jumpsuits. Pinkett Smith was spotted on the streets by mortals on Tuesday, and though her whereabouts are currently unknown, we can only hope to feel her transcendent swagger through the ether. Girlfriend, you are so on.

A HUMBLE PRAYING MANTIS OSTENSIBLY COMMUTING ABOUT TOWN on the 6 TRAIN

Finally, to continue our streak as your #1 source for local escaped animal news, a praying mantis was spotted riding the subway by New York City Council Member Keith Powers. Her appearance on the 6 line was unexpected to say the least, though perhaps she was simply en route to a casual dinner with friends, seeing as mantises love to eat mosquitos and other summertime pests (also bird brains). Some other fun mantis facts: not only are they able to turn their heads 180º, the female mantis is known to engage in … sexual cannibalism. Fun! Let’s hope she was safely removed from the train before any of that happened, since the last thing this city needs is more exotic animals riding public transportation.
