Dancing Across Disciplines With Vinson Fraley Jr.
If, as Martha Graham once said, dancers are the messengers of the gods, then Vinson Fraley Jr. is, quite literally, divine. The 24-year-old native of Atlanta studied at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and then under the tutelage of dance-world icons at the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company. He has collaborated on projects with the musician serpentwithfeet and the artist Carrie Mae Weems, and will soon take an exciting creative detour by releasing a genre-hopping EP of his own music, which he plans to transform into a live show that embodies a synergy of sound and movement.

“My favorite flowers are orchids. They’re delicate and really tender.”
“If I could give any person everything they wanted, it would be my mom. She is the one who has molded and shaped me the most.”
“The hardest part of my day is right after lunch because usually I have to go back into dance rehearsal. It’s hard when you’ve eaten and you get the itis.”
“I am hyper-aware of how I look—at least I think I am. Whatever it is that I’m trying to give you on whatever day, the ultimate goal is to not look messy.”
“I spend around six or seven hours a day on my phone. At least that’s what my phone tells me.”
