B. Miles’ new song “Rude” may not be on the soundtrack of the next James Bond movie, but by our assessment, it certainly should be. Premiering exclusively below, it’s slow and sexy, with just right amount of drama—an emotional arrangement of string instruments, heavy beats, and lilting vocals.

“‘Rude’ brings a lot to the table that I don’t think people have seen in previous B.Miles work,” explains Brenna Miles, the singer behind B.Miles, who co-wrote the track with her songwriting partner Eric Nizgretsky. “I’ve never felt that B.Miles was tied down to one specific genre, and [the song] definitely emphasizes that; it takes us somewhere we’ve never been before.”

“Rude” is a display of unrelenting passion and nervous hesitance. The vocals are high and dreamy and the beat is steady, but the lyrics are dressed in timid language and cut by a muffled sampling of aggressive, fast-paced speech. Written at the beginning of a potentially problematic relationship, the track—which is the second on B. Miles’ forthcoming self-titled, self-released EP—evokes the complex emotions that were running through Miles’s head when she started writing it. “I had just started dating my roommate, and we were trying to figure out if dating while we lived together was a huge mistake or not,” recalls Miles. “I had these intense feelings about it and I just wanted to document every fear I had of us taking the plunge.”
