Casting Call: Kojak
In which we suggest who should star in the next big adaptation, remake, or historical film.
The television show Kojak ran for five seasons from 1973 to 1978, but if it’s up to Universal Pictures and Vin Diesel, Lt. Theo Kojak’s infamous catchphrase, “Who loves ya, baby?” will live on into the 21st century. The popular CBS series, which followed Kojak (Telly Savalas) and his band of crime fighting cronies of the New York City Police Department’s Eleventh Precinct, will be adapted for the big screen. Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, the dream cowriting team of the most recent James Bond movies, including Skyfall, are currently drafting the script for the Kojak movie.
This isn’t the first time Kojak has been exhumed from the past—in 2005, the USA Network reimagined the original series, which aired for just one season and starred Ving Rhames as Kojak. Let’s hope that the bald and brawny Fast & Furious star, Vin Diesel, who is not only producing the film, but has already signed on to play the Tootsie Pop-sucking NYPD detective Theo Kojak, has a few tricks up his sleeve. We’ve got plenty of ideas to help Mr. Diesel out with the rest of the Kojak cast.
