Paul Smith’s Purpose

Paul Smith is a designer who made his name in menswear, and that philosophy shows in his womenswear collection for Spring/Summer ’16. Boxy double-breasted blazers gained shape when paired with tied belt and pencil skirt, and a sheer crocheted tank was undeniably feminine in contrast with oversized trouser pants. The Paul Smith woman seems to gain power from adapting menswear for her own purposes—the strong shoulders, bold splashes of red-orange, and cinched waists were all indicators of a woman staking claim to her wardrobe.
