Elementary My Dear Galliano

Paris streets are plastered with images of the sooty, dapper duo, Robert Downey Jr. and Jude law, alias Holmes and Watson, in Guy Richie’s Sherlock Holmes. And at John Galliano’s Friday evening show they could have slid down the runway without a hitch. It’s true, Galliano’s deerstalkers and trench coats sported clear plastic flaps, flashy leather trim and a slightly loud plaid mix, but Ritchie’s old English spooks are no slouches in the style department either.  One thing Holmes never did was wear a girdle over his trousers, but then when in Paris. Galliano has been playing dress-up in his men’s collections for several seasons. This time he took a side trip to the Orient via the comics for opium den black satin suits with brocade trim and souped-up Balinese boxer shorts.
