Boys and Bananas: Jacquemus Opens a Los Angeles Boutique

As the sun set over Hollywood, a slew of fresh-faced influencers and fashion fans descended on Melrose for the opening celebration of Jacquemus Los Angeles. Inside, Interview favorites Symone and Gigi Goode sipped champagne to the sounds of a live jazz trio, while on the terrace, Noah Beck served sugar free banana soft serve to Vinny Hacker and friends amidst a pop up flower market. It was a set fit for the silver screen, cheery, playful, Jacquemus yellow—they even had a custom made banana car parked out front. But as Instagram’s king of comedy Benito Skinner told us—it’s all about the shopping.

What is the most French thing about you?

That I love escargot. It’s my favorite, I have to get it every time. [Laughs]

Why do L.A. girls love Jacquemus? 

I mean, look at this vibe. This is very L.A. I think it’s because its cool, it’s casual, it’s fun and it’s very youthful and flirty. I mean, that sounds like L.A. to me.

If you could give these flowers to anyone, who would you give them to? 

I would give them to Noah Beck over there. I think I just might.

It’s beautiful. It’s chic, it’s casual. All the good things.

I mean, everything that I’ve ever worn is always very comfortable and very stylish at the same time. I literally feel like I could sleep in this. But also wear it out at the same time.

Why do L.A. girls love Jacquemus? 

Because Simone is the chicest. I think for L.A. girls, the South of France is the dream and he just embodies that.

Probably my girlfriend. She’s French-Canadian. 

Why do L.A. girls love Jacquemus? 

I think there’s something about the South of France and Los Angeles that have a visual identity that’s pretty similar. It’s those rolling orange hills and the green oak trees. I think they do a really good job with—I don’t know if I could call it old Hollywood but they lean into a silhouette that feels similar.
