Carine and Valentino’s Karaoke Playlist

Barneys New York held a party on Saturday at former strip club Westway in honor of Carine Roitfeld, the retailer’s stylist who featured—who else?—herself in the Fall 2011 campaign. Carine certainly showed New Yorkers how Paris gets down: encouraging fashion’s power set to get onstage and break out in song. Roitfeld and Anna Dello Rosso started off the evening with a duet of George Michael’s “Careless Whisper.”  Simon Doonan brought down the house down next with “Nasty Girl.”

Andy Boose was the night’s karaoke MC, and he introduced the next singer, “a new player on the fashion scene”—and the crowd freaked out, as none other than Valentino took the stage to sing a sweet and passionate rendition of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.” That’s the nature of Fashion Week—there’s always some suprise beyond what you’ve imagined. Here was a new level of high-meets-low.

Interview asked some of the other guests in the crowd what their karaoke staple song is.  Karolina Kurkova said “‘Paparazzi,’ because I started singing it at the CFDA and I didn’t get to finish.” The model is true to her words—she ended up getting onstage and singing it. Constance Jablonski said she’d sing “Sympathique,” but then quickly tapped on our shoulder a few minutes later. “It’s not to sing, right?” she asked, worried, and was relieved to hear she hadn’t actually signed up.

Rachel Zoe wasn’t gearing up for the stage, either. “It’s literally my biggest fear in my entire life. I’m petrified,” she said. Model Edita Vilkeviciute says the few times she’s sung karaoke, she did “Like a Virgin”—”It’s easy!” Julia Restoin-Roitfeld ended up stealing her thunder when she got onstage and sang the Madonna classic with friends.  Valentino gave it another epic go with “Unforgettable,” and finally Carine Roitfeld ended things with a touch of irony, vamping “You’re So Vain.”
