Stick with Anya Hindmarch

Anya Hindmarch’s sticker shop collection began with a pair of googley eyes. “We were making tea in our design studio, and we put some eyes on the teapot, and that made us laugh. I remember thinking there was something quite funny about it,” explains the British accessories designer. “We were just playing with animating things, and then I liked the idea of doing something really beautifully made—a really beautiful handbag—and disrupting it a bit.”

In collaboration with Charlotte Stockdale, Hindmarch developed a collection of pop-inspired luxury leather stickers—from initials and smiley faces to tongue-in-cheek slogans like “I love it! What is it?” The whimsical designs defined Hindmarch’s Spring/ Summer 2015 collection, covering tote bags, notebooks, and pencil cases, and last night Hindmarch launched her sticker shop collection at Barney in New York.

The stickers are not, however, a seasonal craze; rather Hindmarch intends to permanently weave them into her accessories line. “It’s taken so long to develop—I’ve become an expert in glue and adhesives,” she explains. “It’s a lot of science.”
