MARC JACOBS MAY SOON HAVE A NEW REASON TO CELEBRATE…
Happy Monday! Here’s our compendium of pop-culture news you may have missed while you were doing more important things over the weekend.
• Marc Jacobs’ contract at Louis Vuitton is set to expire, and WWD reports that he’s in serious talks with Dior to take over John Galliano’s old post. If he chooses to make the switch, he may be succeeded at Vuitton by Céline’s Phoebe Philo (who would be a great choice). [WWD]
• Guests at Kim Kardashian’s wedding to Kris Humphries on Saturday had to give up their cell phones and cameras, but yesterday Ryan Seacrest tweeted a link to the first publicly available video footage of the grand affair, including a look at her strapless Vera Wang gown and bejeweled headpiece. • More like weak-end box office! The Help took over Rise of the Planet of the Apes to claim the #1 spot, not that it was much of a triumph—it made $20.5M. Spy Kids: Poor Jessica Alba opened in third with $12M, Conan the Barbarian floundered with $10M, and The Smurfs stayed in the top 5 with $8M. Fright Night and One Day opened in sixth and ninth places, respectively, with $8.3 and $5.1M. Weak-end! [BOM]
• Reports claim Selena Gomez has dumped Justin Bieber because he’s not mature enough to be in a “long-term, stable relationship!” Gomez, on the other hand, is basically Mr. Miyagi, wisdom and maturity-wise. [Contact Music via Jezebel]
• Liam Gallagher (of Oasis) is suing Noel Gallagher (of Oasis) for libel; Noel apparently claimed the band had to cancel a gig because Liam was hung over, when the official statement was that he had laryngitis. It’s hard to tell which of them comes off looking worse here. [BBC]
• In the month since same-sex marriage became legal, roughly 1,400 gay couples have tied the knot in New York—meaning about one in four New York newlyweds is gay. [NYP]
• Kimberly Stewart, daughter of Rod Stewart, gave birth to a daughter over the weekend, and Benicio del Toro is the baby’s father. [P6]
