Weekend News Roundup: Frank Ocean Releases a Video, The Master Masters the Box Office

Happy Monday! Here’s our compendium of pop-culture news you may have missed while you were doing more important things over the weekend.

Frank Ocean released an eight-minute video for his song “Pyramids” featuring a guitar solo-cameo by John Mayer. The video is directed by Nabil, who’s also worked with Kanye West and Bon Iver. [Stereogum]

Resident Evil: Retribution and the re-release of Finding Nemo in 3D opened at the top spots taking in $21,100,000 and $17,504,000 respectively. It continued to be a pretty terrible year for the box office, with The Possession and Lawless coming in third and fourth place with only $5,800,000 and $4,219,000. [BOM]

It was a great weekend, however, for The Master. Despite only opening on five screens in New York at LA, Paul Thomas Anderson’s film brought in$729,745, which breaks down to $145,949 per screen—a new record. [AP]

Kate Middleton and William Wales are taking French magazine Closer to court for publishing topless photos of Kate Middleton while vacationing at a private chateau in Provence. While neither British nor American newspapers have picked up the photos, they were published in the Irish tabloid, The Irish Daily Star, on Friday. Today, the Italian magazine Chi, owned by former PM Silvio Berlusconi, included a “The Queen is Naked Spread” with 50 photos. For shame.  [The Guardian, The New York Times]
