Wayne of the Day: Bruce Wayne!

Since he’s our April cover star and all, we’re giving rapper Lil Wayne quite a bit of attention on our site this week. But he’s hardly the only Wayne who’s made an impact on American culture. With that in mind, we’ve picked a few other notable Waynes whose accomplishments we want to highlight. Today: Bruce Wayne!

Occupation: Billionaire philanthropist by day, Batmobile-owning crime fighter by night.

Age: Almost 72—he first appeared in Detective Comics in May 1939—but he still looks like a handsome guy of around 30.

Hometown: Gotham City.

Claim to Wayne Fame: Arguably the most famous fictional Wayne, Bruce Wayne resolved to rid Gotham City of crime the night his parents were murdered. He went to Princeton, took a couple of gap years traveling the world, returned to Gotham, and came up with the whole “Batman” thing when a bat crashed into his study. Since then, he’s been kicking ass and saving lives throughout the city, fighting off familiar villains like the Joker and Two-Face.

Why We Want Him On Our Side: Wikipedia notes that Bruce Wayne’s abilities include “Genius-level intelligence;” “Fantastic athlete, gymnast, and hand-to-hand combatant,” and “Possesses several bat-themed weapons and vehicles.” Several! Need we say more?

Up Next: Christian Bale will reprise the role of Bruce Wayne in the final installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies, The Dark Knight Rises, due to be released July 20, 2012. Our dearest hope is that Christopher Nolan actually turns some lights on during the fight scenes, so we can tell what the hell is happening to this beloved Wayne of the Day.
