We first discovered indie-pop band Beat Connection in 2012 and immediately fell in love with their debut EP Surf Noir and following LP The Palace Garden. In the last three years, the Seattle-based quartet (Reed Juenger, Jarred Katz, Tom Eddy, and Mark Hunter) has remained relatively underground with limited releases. Today, however, we’re pleased to announce that Beat Connection recently signed with Anti Records and their sophomore effort, Product 3, will be released later this fall. You can stream the album’s first track, “So Good,” exclusively below.
“We draw from the most profound to the most mundane to create something. It’s hard to chart directly,” Juenger says in regard to the band’s growth. “There has always been a self-conscious complicity to the fact that we are making pop music but our goals are more rooted in diving into the music machine and fucking it up from the inside out.”
Based upon an acoustic demo made by Eddy, which can still be heard at the very beginning of “So Good,” the song lyrically delves into almost every feeling one experiences throughout the course of a relationship, but differentiates itself with feel-good, summer anthem-worthy sonic compositions.
“We have been slowly adding and subtracting from this song for nearly two years,” Juenger continues. The continuous work has paid off, literally: on August 1, “So Good” will make its television debut in a new Bose speaker commercial, and appropriately, the majority of the album was recorded in a proper studio space, instead of a bedroom like their debut.
“We wanted to see how far we could take the song; we wanted to know how much using all the tools actually available to make the tracks would change our process, and if it would actually improve the song,” Juenger explains. “We are incredibly proud of how succinct the song is, how universal the feeling is, and the work that went into it is a long shot scond of the feeling its meant to evoke.”
