Beabadoobee Just Wants to Ride It Out

On her third album, the Rick Rubin–produced This Is How Tomorrow Moves, Beabadoobee expands on the ’90s alt-rock revivalism that’s made her one of the U.K.’s brightest young performers. She also really loves her cats.

I’m doing good.

Where are you?

At home with my cats.

How would you describe your social life?

I like to hang out with my cats.

Who are your enemies?

Dogs. Joking! I don’t really have any enemies.

What’s your step count?

I did just go to Glastonbury, so I know it’s high. I was walking day and night and didn’t go back to my tent till like 5 a.m. each day.

What do you think about when you’re alone?

Cats.

What’s your diet?

I don’t eat a lot of meat. I like veggies a lot, and I love noodles. So, noodles and greens. Oh, and soup! Last year, it was miso soup and then barley soup. Right now, I’m still trying to find my soup of choice.

What are you invested in?

My new album and my cats.

What do you think about dying?

I don’t like to think about dying a lot, but when I do, I always think that if I can reincarnate, I’d want to be a cat.

What advice do you have?

Always change your socks.

What’s the worst thing you’ve said to someone?

I can only think about the worst things people have said to me, which is kind of sad.

Are you where you want to be?

Yes, I’m exactly where I want to be. That said, I wouldn’t mind going somewhere sunnier! It’s so shitty in London right now.

What’s your favorite airport?

Singapore. That airport is crazy because it’s massive. It also has a waterfall inside and that’s pretty crazy.

Do you save money?

Yes, I’m actually really good with money. To be fair, I do like spending it, but overall, I’m pretty alright.

When do you get political?

When I’m really passionate about something.

What’s your most controversial opinion?

Don’t walk around with a backpack at a festival. Just don’t. It hits everyone and you look like a 7-year-old. It’s not a vibe.

What more do you need?

I don’t necessarily want a lot of things. Recently I’ve been wanting another cat.

Do you talk during sex?

Weird question.

What’s in your fridge?

Three packets of cheese—the same extra mature cheddar—some mangos, pesto, and a bunch of sauces. I love cheese, but I’m also lactose intolerant, so it’s a love-hate relationship.

Where do you shop?

I like East London for shopping because they’ve got really good thrift stores, like designer archive stuff. I also really like going to Portobello [Road Market]. On the weekend they have really good clothes.

What do you buy?

All my friends take the piss out of me because I’m obsessed with buying trinkets and I’m obsessed with collecting things. My boyfriend says I’m pretty much a hoarder because I have so much random shit everywhere.

Where are we headed?

I have no clue. I like to just ride it out.

Who’s the last person you blocked?

I blocked somebody this morning, some hater. I used to delete the comments, now I just straight-up block them. Like goodbye, never see me again.

What’s your last Google search?

I have loads of Google searches I’ve never deleted, but one I just clicked on says “Sonny Angels yellow hat black star.” I have no idea what I was doing, but I think I was trying to find a specific Sonny Angel.

What do you really want?

Right now, I would love a jacket potato. Like with cheese and peppers. I’m going to order one, actually.
