ViewGuy Charles Melton Loves The Notebook and Full-Contact Sports
The actor and former Kansas State strong safety feels just as at home tackling tight ends on the football field as he does watching The Notebook. After being introduced to the world as a heartthrob jock on America’s favorite teen drama Riverdale, he is now set to star as the hopelessly romantic male lead, opposite Yara Shahidi, in the screen adaptation of Nicola Yoon’s The Sun Is Also a Star. “My favorite thing about tackling somebody was the adrenaline rush — the warrior mentality of taking somebody down, no matter how big, how strong, or how fast they are. But a few injuries led me to reevaluate my life and my career goals. When I was 20, I went to one of those talent showcases where you pay money to be there. I got called back for America’s Next Top Model — I actually got, like, 23 callbacks. So I made the decision to pack up my bags and drive to Los Angeles with $500 in my pocket, 60 cans of chicken noodle soup, 60 cans of tuna, and a dream.”
