Best Original Screenplay: Kristen Wiig

Before the Oscar nominees were announced, there was some optimistic speculation Bridesmaids would be nominated for Best Picture. Unfortunately this did not happen. But before you write an angry letter of protestation to the Academy, Bridesmaids writers  Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo are smong the contenders for the Best Original Screenplay. When Wiig met with Foo Fighters frontman, and general Nirvana legend, Dave Grohl, for our May 2011 issue one of the topics that arose was why, despite being a double acting and writing threat, Wiig will never do stand-up:

“I enjoy being characters rather than myself. If I had to get up and talk in front of a group of people just as myself, I would be terrified. I get a little anxious, I guess. But if I’m on stage in front of hundreds of people and I am a character doing a monologue, I’m totally fine.”
