If Wes Anderson made an anime, Neo Yokio would be it
Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig is the mind behind the weirdest new animated series, Neo Yokio. Imagine Wes Anderson directing an anime, and you’re only halfway to this superfuture chock full of “magistocrats.”
Neo Yokio (New York plus Tokyo) is “the greatest city in the world” and it’s being overrun by demons. Diverse, fashion-forward and architecturally innovative, the backdrop on which this series is set is, otherwise, a super cool place filled with super attractive people, like Neo Yokio’s number-one eligible bachelor slash demon-slayer Kaz Kaan, pink-haired and lovesick, voiced by Jaden Smith, and fashion blogger Helena St. Tessero, voiced by forever cool-girl Tavi Gevinson. Jude Law voices a mecha-butler, Kaan’s saavy sidekick.
Amandla Stenberg, Susan Sarandon, Steve Buscemi and Jason Schwartzman, are just a few of the other voices sure to prove recognizable, while Kazuhiro Furuhashi, of Rurouni Kenshin fame, lends his storyboard artistry.
All six Neo Yokio episodes debut on Netflix Friday, September 22, 2017. Watch the trailer below.
