Bottega Veneta Lights Up Salone del Mobile With Artist Kwangho Lee

What’s bubbling up over at Milan Design Week this year? We’re hearing whispers that at Salone del Mobile Milano, things are shifting away from the traditional trade fair conventions and pushing the boundaries into more of an experimental hub focused on the future of design. Case in point: Bottega Veneta’s third collaboration with Korean artist Kwangho Lee. Lightful is an installation suspended in the house’s Via Sant’Andrea store. The sculpted light fixtures are crafted in bespoke shades of black and green, hand-picked by the brand’s Creative Director, Louise Trotter. Trotter’s vision left a searing mark on Lee, who had something of a transcendental experience after visiting Bottega Veneta’s Atelier in Montebello. “It was a transformative experience. What I once saw as a simple commonality in our use of weaving became something much more spiritual,” he told us ahead of the opening. To celebrate, we gathered some images of the lights, both in progress and in their final form in Milan.
