These days, music truly lives online, with an innumerable amount of websites dedicated to hosting tunes for the laptop-wielding masses. However, the Web’s bottomless pit of blogs isn’t the only place to troll for mp3 treasures—some of the most new and exciting (internet-friendly) artists can be sought out via Soundcloud, an online stage set in cyberspace that allows musicians to promote and distribute their music to fans and friends across the globe. Here, expert internet sleuth Alex Chapman goes deep into the depths of the music-sharing site, in hopes of shedding light on emerging acts, as well as some digital diamonds in the rough.

Kennedy: “My Ex Girlfriend is a Slut”

Who: You might recall Kennedy for the parodic, disco-infused “Your Mama,” or its gut-busting viral video, which featured the singer’s David Cassidy haircut, as well as some very inappropriate parent-teacher conferences with a bevy of aesthetically blessed moms (you should just watch it, as no written description can really do it justice.)

The Song: Although Kennedy’s music has tended to stay on the comic side (see “Karate” and its video if “Your Mama” didn’t quite cut it), “My Ex Girlfriend Is A Slut” leans more towards melancholic break-up anthem than laugh-out-loud hip-shaker. Whether the vocals belong to Kennedy or another (perhaps female) singer is hard to say, but the track’s ’50s pop form gives it a voice all its own.

Current Project: Kennedy, a former guitarist for The Silversun Pickups who often makes music for commercials and movies, is doing a cross-country radio show whilst recording songs for an album. Find more info on his Kickstarter.

Chippy Nonstop: “Money Dance” (Ryan Marks Remix)

Who: An artist of whom we’re already quite fond, rapper/beloved Twitter celebrity Chippy Nonstop is your artist’s favorite artist, with sultry, hypnotic vocals and a booty-shaking pep that never seems to cease (hence the hilarious pseudonym).

The Song: This remix of Chippy’s irony-tinged party anthem “Money Dance,” a track from her mixtape of the same name (produced by newcomer GraveGoods and DJ Two Stacks, who’s responsible for  Kreayshawn’s breakout hit “Gucci Gucci”), finds the Oakland MC’s vocals chopped and looped against a hard-hitting trap beat with subtle synths, courtesy of the talented Marks.

Current Project: Catch Chippy on tour this fall with fellow female rappers Kreayshawn, Rye Rye, and Honey Cocaine. For more information, click here.

Bondax: “Baby I Got That”

Who: Though their music calls to mind ’90s R&B and smooth vocal house, the production duo of George Townsend and Adam Kaye is—almost unbelievably—a mere 17 years old. The Lancaster, Britain natives have already taken their side of the pond by storm (with a slew of tour dates and record spins from folks like BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac) and their deserved rise to relevance is unlikely to slow.

The Song: With “Baby I Got That,” the boys layer ambient piano keys with a sweet soul clap, and, to top it all off, a sampled hook that’s sure to linger around your head for days.

Current Project: Bondax is currently on the road all across the EU, where they will be performing live until late October.
