Kang Daniel Will Win You Over With His Korean Radish Beef Soup

Kang Daniel

After leaving the group Wanna One, Kang Daniel has become one of the biggest solo acts in all of K-pop. Last week, he released his third “mini album” Yellow, which features the single “Antidote.” Daniel, who also started his own company KONNECT, which functions as the hub for all things Kang Daniel, has plans for North American stardom. But first, he answers some questions from the writings of Andy Warhol.

ANDY WARHOL: What did you eat for breakfast?

KANG DANIEL: A mix of Korean roots and vegetables.

WARHOL: What was your first job?

DANIEL: Construction worker.

WARHOL: Who was the nicest person you worked for?

DANIEL: I worked at a café when I was 17, and the owner of the café was just a really nice person. He treated me really well and kept me grounded.

WARHOL: What’s your favorite movie?

DANIEL: Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. I know it’s three.

WARHOL: Who are your favorite actors?

DANIEL: Brad Pitt.

WARHOL: Do you play an instrument?

DANIEL: I play the drums and the recorder. I am pretty good at the recorder. (LOL)

WARHOL: Do you dream?

DANIEL: Yes, I dream a lot of losing my phone and of a lot of annoying situations these days.

WARHOL: Showers or baths?

DANIEL: Showers because they’re quick, but I enjoy baths.

WARHOL: Are you a good cook? If so, what’s your specialty?

DANIEL: Yes, Korean beef radish soup. I cook often for my friends when they come over and I have been told I am a good cook.

WARHOL: Is there anything you regret not doing?

DANIEL: I regret not having a normal high school and university life.

WARHOL: How many tubes of lipstick do you use a day?

DANIEL: None, but I use a lot of lip balm.

WARHOL: When do you get nervous?

DANIEL: Before I perform in front of my fans.

WARHOL: What do you like in a person?

DANIEL: Honesty and sincerity.

WARHOL: What do you think about love?

DANIEL: Love is family and friends and the people closest to you.

WARHOL: Why can’t it just be magic all the time?

DANIEL: Because all that glitters is not gold and you only appreciate what’s good after experiencing what’s bad.

WARHOL: What are you reading right now?

DANIEL: A lot of Korean webtoons.

WARHOL: Do you have a dream role?

DANIEL: I want to play a zombie extra on The Walking Dead.

WARHOL: What kind of roles are you after now?

DANIEL: Ones that pique my interest and challenge me.

WARHOL: What do you do in your spare time?

DANIEL: Play a lot of video games. Not any one in particular, but I have been revisiting a lot of older games these days.
