This is SOUND ADVICE, a weekly destination for playlists curated by Interview’s friends, enemies, and lovers. Over the past few weeks, we’ve gathered playlists from Oko Ebombo, GAYLE, Shygirl, and UNIIQU3. This week’s guest is Kentavia Miller, the Houston-born rapper, who saw a Soundcloud overwrought with “Ken” profiles and adopted her stage name, KenTheMan. KTM has been rapping since she was a child, but hit gold with her 2020 single “He Be Like,” which she wrote in 15 minutes while delivering food as a DoorDasher. It whizzed past a million streams in days. Last year, she signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. Her beats are carbonated, the lyrics are vivid (and NSFW), and her powerful delivery ratifies her moniker. For this week’s Sound Advice, the proud Gemini made us a rousing playlist and confessed to a DoorDash snafu ahead of the release of her punchy, brand-new single, “The Pussy Song.”

———

Where do you dance? In the mirror at home.

What song on this playlist, if any, makes you cry? None.

Name your favorite artist no one knows about. Jastin Martin.

Bluetooth or wired headphones? Bluetooth.

The dick appointment has just ended. What are you listening to? “The P*ssy Song” by me, of course.

What’s your favorite movie? Bad Boys 2.

Most Gemini song on this playlist? “Never Lose Me” by Flo Milli.

Favorite on-the-road meal? Beef fajita tacos.

You famously wrote a song while working as a DoorDasher. Any food delivery horror stories? When I was so thirsty, I sipped out the side of someone’s drink and ate a couple fries but we ain’t gone talk about that. When you’re back up against the wall, you get thirsty.

What song reminds you of your childhood? “Mo City Don” by Z-Ro.

What song makes you feel free? “Whatever She Wants” by Bryson Tiller.

The world is ending; what are you wearing? Black so you can’t see my sweat while I’m panicking.

Sunglasses inside, yes or no? Yes.

What was your favorite city to play on the “Back to 304’n” Tour? It would be a tie between Dallas and Chicago.

Your new single, “The Pussy Song,” is almost out. What’s the ideal place to listen to it? In a hotel room on vacation.
