Exclusive Video Premiere: ‘Desire,’ Eli Escobar (feat. Nomi Ruiz)
Thank God for Nomi Ruiz—the transsexual beauty has been charming crowds forever with her unique look and signature vocals, both of which have been showcased via her work with nu-disco collectives like Hercules and Love Affair and Jessica 6, as well as her starring role in the X-rated Theirry Mugler menswear Spring 2012 campaign. Nomi once again proves her praise and popularity are well-deserved in the new video for the Eli Escobar-produced “Desire,” which we’re honored to exclusively premiere.
In the video, directed by Shan Nicholson (who’s responsible for the award-winning documentary Dowtown Calling), we see the New York City evening through a chronically warped filter. New York luminary/Spank Rock and Santigold drummer Prince Terrence (decked in his standard, Warriors-esque wear) struts through the streets of Soho, a beautiful girl seemingly taking a parallel path. All the while, Nomi dances and coos her way through Submercer, an intimate, exclusive nightclub that has rather recently hosted the 34th birthday party for one Mr. Kanye West.
Flashes of Escobar spinning his funky dance jam are spliced with the effortlessly gorgeous Nomi, and Terrence is seen dancing with the woman who was shown walking earlier. All of this seems a mere disco-induced fantasy for some—but for Nomi, Terrence and company, you can safely assume it’s just another night on the town.
