Björk unveils cover art and title of her new record ‘Utopia’

UTOPIA ALBUM ART BY JESSE KANDA

Björk doesn’t need to say much to set our hearts racing—this morning she accomplished it with three short sentences on Twitter, announcing the title and cover art for her new record made with her collaborator, the underground electronic producer Arca. “utopia is coming out 24nov. cover by the talented jesse kanda,” she wrote, adding, “jupiterian gratitudes to arca for the musicmaking!” She accompanied the tweet with Kanda’s artwork, which depicts her as a stunning CGI empress with a fleshy heart emerging from her forehead.

Arca tweeted a screenshot of a further comment from the legendary left-field pop star.

“the soft merge that yielded this album has been one of the most oxygenating experiences i’ve had in my lifetime,” she gushed, asking, “can i be a little sentimental? i cherish every single moment in the 2+ year journey of this album with you and james and jesse. the licking raindrops out of the salty air in the tropics & listening for birds, swimming in green and the luminous rainbow that flooded the air after. it floods me still each day with colors i didn’t know.”

Where her 2015 album Vulnicura was an emotionally raw heartbreak album, Utopia seems like it will incorporate warmer feelings. “this album truly carries a piece of utopia for me – & one that is already smilingly real. unquantifiable, hundreds of thousands of sparkles effortlessly magicked by the regal james merry. i love u.”

UTOPIA IS OUT NOVEMBER 24 ON ONE LITTLE INDIAN RECORDS.
