We’re Anticipating… The Tree of Life

FILM STILL COURTESY OF FOX SEARCHLIGHT

Film nerds, start your engines! The trailer for Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life—previously, infuriatingly viewable only in theater previews—is finally online.  The film will be released May 27, 2011, and if you’re anything like us, you’re already counting down. We’ve literally been anticipating this film for years: it’s been a half-decade and counting since his last film, The New World, was released. Malick’s no stranger to patient filmmaking: including The Tree of Life, he’s directed just five feature-length films, and he waited a full 20 years between Days of Heaven and The Thin Red Line. The Tree of Life‘s trailer showcases his signature eye for gorgeous aesthetics (check out the still, above, for confirmation), and the film looks like it boasts a pretty powerful story, to boot: it’s a multi-generational family drama that stars Brad Pitt as the future Sean Penn’s dad. Judge for yourself, below.
