“Everything I do goes back to the beach, the sun—and skin,” says New York–based designer Pip Amey. “There’s nothing better than human skin against animal skin and sand.” The 32-year-old Australian native, who honed her sense of “humor and whimsy” over four years at Betsey Johnson as an accessories designer before going solo to consult on designing various projects involving exotic skins last year, launches her own accessories line this month. First up is a set of plush, life-size animal hide–shaped cotton towels, which come in ’70s-style zebra and cheetah prints. “I named them after my local nude beach, Maslin, in South Australia,” explains Amey. “It’s very Eden-like, full of artists and wild dudes who just wash up on the coast—the furthest place from Manhattan.”
