Runway Traffic: Danny Schwarz

In the last year, newcomer Danny Schwarz has strongarmed geeky, skinny adolescents off the runway, and replaced them with a physique unseen since the 90s heyday of male supermodels. His masculine, chiseled looks have taken him from the London DJ scene to the intersection of Houston and Lafayette in New York, stopping traffic with his buff torso in the new Calvin Klein Jeans billboard shot by Steven Meisel. It’s a feat that puts him in the company of Kate Moss, Brooke Shields and Mark Wahlberg. Now that he has conquered the runways of New York, Milan, and Paris, what will get between him and his Calvins?

Here are some of those things:

Name: Danny Schwarz
Agency: VNY Model Management
Birth date: 01/28/1986
Hometown: South London, England

Shows walked: This past Fall Winter shows in New York I walked in a few shows including Tommy Hilfiger, Zegna, Y3, Rag & Bone. In Milan I did Dolce & Gabbana, Bottega Veneta, Armani, Versace, and Givenchy direct booking in Paris.

How where you discovered:
I was concentrating on my DJ-ing career in the UK, running events and a small record label. Subsequently I was interviewed by a popular DJ magazine and shot by a fashion photographer who convinced me to see some agencies.

First big gig:
I think my very first gig was a shoot for 10 Magazine then GQ Style and then I got a Calvin Klein exclusive show in Milanâ??so a pretty good start, I guess.

What is the most interesting thing that has happened to you so far?

You get to meet some really amazing and creative people, which in normal day-to-day life I certainly wouldn’t get to meet.

What music are you listening to right now?
I have a broad taste in music and a keen passion for music production. I like a lot of electronic music including Breaks, Drum n Bass, Dubstep, Trip Hop, which is what I tend to produce.

What are you reading right now?

I’m reading Yes Man by a favorite writer of mine, Danny Wallace. He’s a South Londoner like myself. It’s about a period in the life of Danny where he decides to let fate dictate his future and say “yes” to absolutely everything and see where it leads.  I haven’t seen the film yet but would definitely recommend it.

What are your hobbies?
My main hobby is music, but I love keeping fit and I spend a lot of my time in the gym and playing sports, mainly football or soccer (as they wrongly call it here). I’m also a keen fan of motorbike racing and have my own sports bike back home that I miss.

What would you be doing if you weren’t modeling?
I think I would still be pursuing a career in the music business, maybe working in a studio somewhere.

What do you think of when you are walking down the runway?

What I’m going to have for dinner or whether or not I left the gas on. Of course I’m just kidding, I would never leave the house with the gas on, it’s dangerous and irresponsible!
