Dior’s Celestial Couture

A tremendous 1,700 hours went into constructing Look 22’s gown for Dior’s Spring/Summer 2017 Haute Couture show. Inspired by Salvador Dalí’s surrealist works, the ball gown features astrological motifs, hand-painted and embroidered onto an ecru taffeta skirt. Small jewels embedded within the zodiac constellations further enhance the garment’s texture, while intricate needlework and a striking color palette of gold, black, silver, and pink give it its striking vintage look. “It’s really a piece of art,” says Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri in the above behind-the-scenes video. “You really feel that it’s unique,” she continues, “and the couture is one of a kind.”
