Xolo Maridueña’s Guide to Smashing a Burger

As Miguel Diaz, the underdog at the heart of the mega-popular Karate Kid sequel Cobra Kai, we’ve watched Xolo Maridueña go to town on some unfortunate Valley kids. With the Netflix juggernaut entering its fourth season, the 20-year-old actor is getting ready to take his ass-kicking up a notch as Blue Beetle, in DC’s first Latinx superhero movie of the same name. But before he starts smashing bad guys, he’ll smash this burger.

1. Decide what’s going on the burger. Considering I’m practically a walking garbage disposal, everything is going on my burger. If you happen to find a place that lets you put an egg on the burger, it’s extra points. LET THAT YOLK RUN.

2. Order the burger. How should it be cooked? I’m a firm believer in the medium-rare patty, but medium is fine, too, if you’re not into the pink.

3. For our second-to-last step, we practice discipline: waiting for the burger. Arguably the hardest part of this four-step process. If you’re making the burger at home, the only answer is to blast music. “Family Ties” by Baby Keem or “Dreams and Nightmares” by Meek Mill are two immaculate patty-flipping bangers, but I don’t judge. Throw on Adele or Luke Combs; we’ll make do with what we have.

4. Now for our last step we approach the heavens and get to eating. If your burger is cut in half, start from the corner of the crescent. We’re animals at heart, but we can’t get our outfits dirty. Have fun with it……Close your eyes and do the Ratatouille thing, be silly, rinse, and repeat.
