Ralph Lauren’s America

Oh say can you see Ralph’s Polo pony? Once again, Ralph Lauren has stepped up to serve his country by designing Team USA’s oppening ceremony outfits for the 2010 Olympic games in Vancouver. Combining patriotism and prep in a way that only Ralph can, the ensembles scream America with sporty, tailored white trousers, cozy cabled turtlenecks, navy puffer jackets, and knit caps that feature a woodsy design of alternating pine trees and majestic moose (undoubtedly a nod of gratitude to our hospitable neighbors to the north). Trimmed with red stripes on the stand-up collar, pockets, and arms, the coats are, of course, embellished with USA over the right breast. And, as a subtle reminder of who designed our nation’s Olympic garb, a magnified Ralph Lauren emblem gallops to victory on the coat’s left panel. If luck is on our side, the podiums of each medal ceremony will look as though they were plucked straight from the pages of a Polo catalogue.
