At the most recent edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, which wrapped this week, the collections Spain-based designers produced for spring 2013 fall into two categories: the haves and the have-nots, a juxtaposition between collections brimming with details and those that opted for a more refined approach.
For a fashion week that features only about 25 designers, Istanbul's four-day runway rundown, staged Feb. 8–Feb. 11, boasted massive variety. Unlike last week's Stockholm Fashion Week and its uniforms of sleek, wearable blacks, there's no singular aesthetic that dominated the catwalks of Istanbul.
Tomorrow marks the opening day of Istanbul Fashion Week, the day before New York starts its own. Undoubtedly, most of the fashion glitterati will have their eyes firmly fixated on the runways of Lincoln Center, but for Turkey-born, Vienna-based Atil Kutoglu, who showed his collection in the Big Apple for nearly nine years, it's now all about Istanbul.
