GOSHA RUBCHINSKIY. Designer: Gosha Rubchinskiy, 33. Hometown: Moscow, Russia. Inspiration: “This is our third collection around football, leading up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup taking place in Russia for the first time next June. As football was first brought to Russia by British emissaries in the early 19th century through St. Petersburg, it was important to me to pay tribute to this history. St. Petersburg has always been Russia’s window into Western culture.” Dream client: Russian youth, youth in general, inspire me the most.”

Y/PROJECT. Designer: Glenn Martens, 34. Hometown: Bruges, Belgium. inspiration: “They call Bruges ‘The Venice of the North.’ I grew up in the shadows of exquisite gothic architecture. But as in Venice, Bruges attracts mass tourism, and the kitsch and consumption that comes with it. At a certain point, I learned to love those awful tourist stores, the neon lights, and the smelly food stalls. Both sides—classic elegance and the aggression of the street—can be seen in my work.” Greatest challenge: To keep it fun. If we’re not enjoying ourselves, what’s the point?” Dream client: “I’m as grateful seeing my 90-year-old grandmother wearing Y/Project as the club kid last Saturday at an after-party.” The future of men’s fashion is: “I don’t know.”
