What’s the most L.A. thing that’s ever happened to you?
MONK: A couple years ago I went to a Lakers game with my dad. When the game ended, for a fraction of a second, I made eye contact with Jack Nicholson. I think that moment was deeply connected to my purpose.
What are you most angry about?
ZARIYA: I'm not a fan of social justice as a trend or performative activism. I wish people would actually work towards educating and unlearning so that we can come closer to understanding.

What is the most L.A. thing that’s ever happened to you?
ENZO: Being born here, watching people come here and try to establish themselves endlessly. People trying to come get a piece or of culture and land that they are late for.
Or like true old community members who are actually trying to covet from you, while new heads try to apply their influence; it’s all pretty futile. Everything's cheapened and commodified. Like even if you “make it,” you’re still a number. Real stars exist in real life, not the ones seen on screen. Pitting themselves against each other in cramped scenes and audition rooms.
I just be hype dodging. Same old boring concrete streets, same kooks, same celebs, new trends, fresh bloods, old beefs, old money … Whatever, who cares.

You can get lost in your own world on your phone, in your own little Truman show where you think L.A. is just your car, your reality, and your spots … But the fabric of this city is built on a true melting pot of community, of many people outside our own tunnel vision, and I believe it’s imperative to cultivate and diversify our own communities to nurture our local people and surroundings.
I started GRLSWIRL to bring women together and create a community of women who respect and empower each other and the streets and beaches where we ride.
