Casting Call: Fame

A dance instructor at the high school, Lydia Grant is tough, but also fair and kind. We imagine her played by actress and musician Janina Gavankar (True Blood, Mysteries of Laura).

Another student at the high school, Doris Schwartz is awkward, goofy, and very lovable. She becomes best friends with Danny Amatullo. For this role, we pick Allie Grant (Suburgatory, Weeds).

An expert keyboard player, musician, and singer, Bruno Martelli is a whole package. Freddie Highmore, who is captivating as brooding sociopath Norman Bates on Bates Motel, would stand out in the role.

Stand-up comic Danny Amatullo hides his vulnerabilities behind his humor. He is also a talented singer. For this part, we nominate Jordan Gavaris, who shines in every one of his scenes on Orphan Black.

A talented music and dance student who refuses to give up on her dreams, Coco Hernandez is a fan favorite. We'd like to suggest Samira Wiley, best known for playing Poussey on Orange is the New Black.

Leroy Johnson is the hero of Fame, and everybody's favorite singer and dancer. Jake Smollett, who starred in the award winning film Eve's Bayou, could be a good fit for the role. Jake's older brother Jussie plays Jamal on Empire, and his older sister Jurnee is also an actress. With Jake's musical background and charming looks, he could easily follow in his siblings' footsteps.
